Single Mass Flywheels
A single mass flywheel is a weighted disc that bolts to the end of an engine’s crankshaft, before the clutch and transmission. When they are rotating, single-mass flywheels reduce torsional vibration from the engine. Single mass flywheels were the first type that was engineered.
Dual Mass Flywheels
A dual mass flywheel is a mechanical device with two distinct parts separated from each other. The component is designed with one of the parts (primary mass) attached to the rear of the vehicle’s crankshaft. The other part of the DMF (secondary mass) is attached to the flywheel’s primary mass.
When fitting a new clutch it is highly recommended that the flywheel is re-faced and most clutch manufacturers require this as part of their warranty.
We are equipped with a specialised flywheel re-facing machine which enables us to give the flywheel a like-new surface, ensuring it is not only flat, but that it also has the correct surface finish to aid “bedding in” of the new clutch.
We can machine flat, stepped, recessed and stainless steel flywheels.
